Our Story

There are 3 important parts to Sugar Grove Pottery and Eclectica: me, Paul Muth; my son, Joseph Muth Eastham (and his wife, Evie), and my father Marcus Muth, a patron of the arts that has shown unwavering support to me and Joseph through the years. Right now, Sugar Grove Pottery is spread across 3 locations. The farm, near Bowling Green, KY where we are building a wood kiln and digging wild clay to use in glazes and eventually production. Danville, KY where I keep my main studio, and Berea, KY where Joseph is currently living and where Evie will soon graduate from Berea College. Joseph is a recent graduate of Berea College where he was a Art Major and Pottery Apprentice.

As the senior potter for Sugar Grove Pottery, it is my delight to watch as Joseph comes into his craft and tries new things. He will be presenting the more experimental and eclectic pieces as he experiments with different glazes and shapes.

I work within a more traditional line of hand thrown work. I have been a Juried Member of the Kentucky Craft Marketing Program since 1993. I am comfortable in designing and producing series of pieces in an established style and can work to order across many techniques.

We are happy to produce work that includes company logos or event graphics. Wholesale arrangements can be made. It is our intention to participate in the Ky Craft Marketing wholesale markets and promotions in the future as well as other wholesale markets, but due to the current restrictions in regard to the virus we have no plans that can be announced.

For large orders, we prefer to deliver work or have it picked up at the studio. Shipping has known risks and while we will pack items to a profession standard, smaller orders are simply easier and safer to ship than large assortments of items.
